Emotional Eating: Its Cause and How to Control it

By Jeanette Griffin

Can you relate to this? It’s dinner hour and you’re already worn down from the day but you’ve got to get the kids fed before you have to rush out the door to get the kids soccer practice and karate class. Later that night you start hearing the Ben & Jerry’s calling from the freezer, eat three scopes, and convince yourself that you deserved a treat after the long, hard day you had. Finally the kids are in bed and it’s time to check emails and relax in front of the TV. The bag of chips in the cabinet starts sounding pretty good right about now. This spree of mindless grazing most likely had nothing to do with hunger—this type of eating is more like the result of... Read more...

Relieve Your Stress with Sex

By Jeanette Griffin
Sex does lower stress. You have heard it here. I highly recommend sex for reducing stress but for many worn out moms sex can be one of the last things on your mind. New moms are not only dealing with being tired but it is quite common to have hormone levels interfere with the libido at this time. The man wants sex and the woman wants... Read more...

What is a Comfort Zone and Are You Still Comfortable There?

By Jeanette Griffin

As mothers we are told how important it is to have routines. Routines help our children feel secure and keep the household running smoothly. They make for a less stressed life. We learn to trust these routines and feel that they help maintain sanity and balance in our lives. What I am about to tell you goes against all of those principles that you have heard up until now.

But first I’d like to confess something. Read more...

Practicing Mindful Parenting

By Jeanette Griffin

The relationship between a child and a parent can often include conversations that can leave a parent flustered and feeling as if they’re not being heard. You know the scenario where the child asks if they can have that certain toy as you’re rushing through the store and they keep asking and then it can result into a full blown tantrum. Or you know the one where you ask your child to clean up their room and a day later the dirty socks are still lying on the floor toys and books are all around the room. What do we do? Read more...

Exercising Your Optimism

By Jeanette Griffin

As a parent, I know that I would much rather inspire and nurture the qualities of an optimist that sees life as a glass half full than a pessimist that sees the glass as half empty. It does seem easier for our minds to think about what might go wrong rather than what could go right.

The purist form of optimism that I have ever witnessed is the optimism of a child. Read more...

Do You Get Your 8 Hours?

By Jeanette Griffin
Busy moms have busy lives. Who has time for sleep, right? A good night’s rest is often one of the first things to go with the birth of a child. Lack of sleep is one of the mom job requirements. All of those middle of the night feedings, staying up late with sick kids, and those bad dream nights. A mom is also a multi-tasking machine. We try to get it all done before the day’s end and for some moms that often means working well into the evening after the kids are in bed. Read more...

Working Mom’s Guilt

By Jeanette Griffin

Do you ever feel a twinge of Working Mom guilt?

Every working mom has experienced Working Mom guilt at some point or another. It can be heart wrenching to leave your little one in the hands of their daycare provider after prying their little hands from your leg while they are crying at the top of their lungs, “NO MOMMY DON’T GO!” This would cause any mom to feel like they’ve just earned the “Worst Mom of the Century Award.”

Tension Headaches

By Jeanette Griffin

Researchers had believed at one time that tension headaches were caused by built up tension in the muscles of the face and neck. New research has shown that stress is one of the leading causes for tension headaches. Stress causes fluctuations in the neurotransmitters of the brain the brain chemicals (serotonin and endorphins). They believe that this induces these types of headaches. Read more...
